China stoking ‘trust deficit’ with neighbouring nations
Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie says China’s response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is “quite concerning”.
“Firing missiles near Taiwan, it’s actually a big escalation,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Mr Hastie said “authoritarian powers are on the move” as over the last decade, China has had a “trust deficit” with its neighbours.
“This sort of behaviour does nothing to build trust among nations and I think it concerning, it’s definitely an escalation on what we’ve seen.”
“We want peace, it’s only right and proper that we call on China to cease these activities.”
