Andrews government rejects bid to upgrade firefighting equipment
Menzies Research Centre’s Nick Cater says the Andrews government’s rejection of a Victorian firefighting service’s bid to upgrade trucks and equipment “doesn’t make Victorians any safer”.
The bid was rejected despite warnings in leaked cabinet documents that its ageing fleet would not adequately protect firefighters and the community, according to The Australian.
“The one group of people I think all of us think needs our support, particularly at times of fires, are volunteer fire people,” he told Sky News host Jenna Clarke.
“And we should give them every bit of support, not to attack them as the Andrews government has been doing.”
