Liberals have lost in the ‘Liberal heartland’
The Australian’s National Editor Dennis Shanahan says the Liberals “have lost seats everywhere” and have had losses “in the Liberal heartland”.
He said the National Party has managed to retain all its seats in regional and rural Australia for the third time.
“That is an incredible effort for the junior Coalition partner. But the Liberals of course have lost seats everywhere to all sorts of people – to the teals and to the Labor Party,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
While the Labor Party will form government, it has lost “a great deal of its primary vote”, which in many cases has been picked up by the Greens.
“At this stage it certainly looks like the Greens have profited from Labor’s losses,” he said.
