‘No expectations’: Australia won’t force Pacific to choose between US and China
Australia doesn’t expect countries in the region to choose between an allegiance with China or the US, says Foreign Minister Marise Payne.
“We must be able to continue to pursue key relationships with countries like China, and they are issues that we have discussed already here today,” Ms Payne said.
“Australia has no expectations … of any of our partners or any other country in the region that they would be forced into making choices.
“Ultimately, they are sovereign decisions for the countries in our region.”
