Labor want to counter China in Pacific with ‘handful of ABC journalists’
Labor cannot be taken seriously this election if it wants to counter a “highly aggressive” military nation like China in the Pacific with a handful of ABC journalists, says The Australian’s Jennifer Oriel.
Under Labor’s Pacific plan, the ABC will be given $8 million annually to increase Australia’s voice in the region and counter China’s growing influence in the Pacific.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison attacked Labor’s plan, saying, “their answer to solving the Solomon Islands problem is to have Q&A in Honiara”.
“I think the Prime Minister got this one right,” Ms Oriel said.
“Labor has nothing new to add except sending in some ABC journalists.”
