Taxpayers ‘indirectly' or ‘inadvertently' funding climate activism groups
NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee says there are two ways taxpayers are either “indirectly” or “inadvertently” funding activities and groups such as Extinction Rebellion.
“There’s the deductible gift recipient status of some of these organisations, which allow them to collect donations from the public and those donations are tax deductible,” Mr Galilee told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“A number of these organisations enjoy that status despite some of the actions that they encourage or sometimes undertake.
“And there is also funding that the taxpayers provide to the environmental defenders offices around the country, which are community based legal organisations that provide support for the people involved in these activities quite regularly.”
