Election language decoded with Kel Richards
Broadcaster Kel Richards has joined Sky News host Peta Credlin for another week of ‘Words Matter’, where he decoded the meaning behind words such as ‘ballot’ and ‘candidate’.
“Candidate comes from a Latin word, ‘candidatus’, which means clothed in white,” Mr Richards explained.
“Because, in the old Roman era, candidates wore white togas … it was the candidates standing in the Roman senate who wore white togas.”
